Tarzan is a mythical character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Johnny J. Weissmuller (1949-Present) is related to Johnny (TARZAN) Weissmuller (1904-1984) who played TARZAN for the first time in the sixth Tarzan film for the silver screen. He was, however, the first Tarzan in a "talking movie." in 1932. His last Tarzan film was in 1948 -- a year before Johnny J. Weissmuller was born.

The line "Me Tarzan, you Jane" was NOT an Edgar Rice Burroughs line from his books. Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan was much more articulate. "Me Tarzan, you Jane" is not even a line from the movie script as many critics are wont to point out. So where did this piece of Americana come from? It was a bit of chauvinistic, back-lot humor (said in spirit of mirth). "Me Tarzan, you Jane" was a quip Johnny Weissmuller made to Maureen O'Sullivan in the movie studio parking lot. Seeing her struggling to lift her heavy suitcase into the trunk of her car, Johnny Weissmuller laughingly uttered these famous words as he effortlessly swooped up the case and tossed it into the car. Enough cast and crew were around to hear his comment and it struck everyone as so funny that the quip (and its intended chauvinistic tone) lives on to this day. The actor, quipster, and five gold medal Olympic swimming star (1924 Paris and 1928 Amsterdam) passed away in January 1984. |

| His real son's name is not "Boy", but Johnny Weissmuller, Jr.. As up this update (Nov 26, 2002), his son (my second cousin trice removed) is around 60 years old. "Sensible"
System's Johnny J. Weissmuller is the first cousin, twice removed to the late actor "Johnny (Tarzan) Weissmuller".
(Photo at right shows a wrestler (Lou Talaver?), Adam Weissmuller and his two cousins, Peter and Johnny Weissmuller) Adam and Johnny (Tarzan) were both born around the turn of the century in the Banat region of Austria-Hungary. Adam was born in Varias in 1899 and Johnny (Johan) in 1904 in Freidorf (suburb of modern Timisoara metropolitan area). This became Romania after their families emigrated to the United States around 1904-7. Although they came into the US to different ports and spent time elsewhere along the way (yes, like Windber PA) both spent most of their childhood in Chicago Illinois.
