Research in CODAP and Occupational Analysis
The "atCODAP" system supported by SSI is an occupational analysis system that is "anchored to", but not limited by the traditional, mainframe CODAP system. In other words, where the original CODAP system was focused on ONLY task-anchored job analysis (it only allows 1 list), the atCODAP system is an integrative approach and supports up to 99 lists in a given study. Concurrent lists can include task statements (obviously), knowledge elements, skills and/or abilities, other attributes, competencies, qualifications, tools, principles used, information sources, critical incidences, or any other dimension appropriate to job incumbents or ratings by experts. Although the atCODAP manuals never cite "competency" as an item factor, it is the analyst's responsibility to employ the appropriate level of job dimension to suit the purpose of the project (study) at hand.
At the task analysis level, atCODAP's item inventory can present "tasks" in the position of "module" statements and use the item level to rate underlying ability requirements dimension strengths such as required numerical ability, verbal ability, analytic ability, vigilance or Sidney Fine's, taxonomy assessing the demands for dealing with People, Data, or Things for each task.
As with even with mainframe CODAP, atCODAP can be used to collect rater data and determine inter-rater agreement on targets other than job incumbents -- such as a comparison of job families (a la O*NET) or even "fidelity" assessments of various types of training simulators.
