Our Original Announcement from December 2002
As we all know, our very own Dr. Joe H. Ward, Jr. is a human dynamo in many fields, even since his retirement from the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory around 15 years ago.
In addition to his pioneering work on multiple linear regression methods now known as General Linear Models (GLMs), hierarchical clustering algorithms, and the computerization of statistical methods, Joe is currently an avid basketball coach, a ubiquitous science fair mentor, and an instrumental force behind the establishment of an Advanced Placement program for Statistics in local high schools.
In 1997, in recognition of Joe's efforts, he was named as the Northside Independent School District's (NISD) Outstanding Intergenerational Volunteer. Dr. Ward has also been recognized by the Texas State Board of Education as a "Hero for Children."
Joe's most recent honor, however, is extremely rare by any standards -- an elementary school will be named in his honor when it opens in summer 2003. It will be the Dr. Joe Ward Elementary School.
